Qualia are minimal units of subjective experience — concrete elements of what is felt: a color sensation, a sound timbre, a taste, a tactile pressure. Qualia arise within perceptual modalities (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc.). Each quale has a set of parameters described as submodalities.
